Old Faithful Inn Renovation
Yellowstone National Park
(Sept 2004-Nov 2006)
This project was the renovation of the historic Old Faithful Inn at Yellowstone National Park. Old Faithful Inn celebrated its 100th year in 2003. As a historic renovation, great care was taken throughout the project to preserve the historic nature and the historic feel of this national treasure. This project included demolition and reconfiguration of multiple electric services feeding the building. It also included an emergency backup power system with two 1,750 KW generators, and lightning protection on a building that is over 100-feet tall in places. The project consisted of a complete retrofit of the historic light fixtures. All of the light fixtures on the project were rewired and refinished back to their original look. A new fire alarm system, a new paging system, a new emergency lighting system, and a new lighting control system were added to the historic inn. 3D CAD drawings for all mechanical areas were completed to coordinate equipment locations and sizes with all trades.
Much of the difficulty of this project included the logistics of the project. The renovation was conducted through two winters in Yellowstone National Park. Due to the historic nature of the facilities and a concern of melting snow and ice on the roof of the structure, heat was not allowed in the buildings. Our crews worked throughout the winters in sub-zero temperatures to maintain the project schedule. Productivity was low, but the crews continued to battle the extreme weather throughout the project. During the winter, November through April, our crews would travel via snowmobile, an hour each way, to get the project done. During the winter months, our crew size reached eight-men. During the spring months, our crew size reached 26-men. Construction was halted during the summer months, June through September, for the tourist season.
Old Faithful Inn – Kitchen Reno
Yellowstone National Park
(Sept 2011-April 2012)
This project was an extensive renovation of the kitchen area of the historical Old Faithful Inn. The project included 3 floors of lighting, power, fire alarm, and communications, and a complete upgrade to the building electrical infrastructure. The kitchen area of the historic building was completely gutted and remodeled to accommodate for new kitchen equipment. The historic nature of the building was carefully preserved throughout the project. With a project duration of one winter, pre-planning and coordination was critical for this project. Utilizing a track truck, and snowmobiles when necessary, materials and men were able to be transported in all weather conditions to keep the electricians on schedule.
Yellowstone Club Lakeside Lodge
Big Sky, MT
(2013 – 2014)
The Lakeside Lodges project included the construction of 22 condominiums. The new condominiums were constructed in three new three-floor buildings built atop the existing parking structure at the Warren Miller Lodge at the Yellowstone Club. The upscale condominium project included five new elevators, LED lighting, lighting control, a fire alarm system, a facility wide CCTV system, facility wide communications system, and a facility wide TV system. The construction of the buildings included an interstitial space, also constructed on top of the existing parking structure, that housed much of the mechanical equipment servicing the condominiums. Above the interstitial space, a new deck was constructed where the three buildings were built. A sky bridge was also constructed to connect the condominium project to the existing Warren Miller Lodge.
